Better Roads’ Barbaccia wins coveted Jesse H. Neal Award

NEW YORK CITY (March 2011) – Tina Grady Barbaccia, executive editor of Better Roads, was honored with a Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award during a luncheon and awards ceremony held March 10, 2011, at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City. This is the 57th year of the competition, which is produced by American Business Media.
Barbaccia won the Best Subject-Related Series of Articles category for her Better Bridges articles which appeared in the February, May, August and November 2010 issues of Better Roads. The stories were edited by Editor-in-Chief John Latta and Senior Editor Mike Anderson.
“Tina’s enthusiasm for her work shines through in everything she writes,” says Latta. “The articles that made up her winning portfolio are exceptional examples of her passion for bringing Better Roads’ readers interesting, meticulously researched articles that help them do their jobs better.”
Neal Award entries go through an in-depth judging process that includes a two-stage screening by peer journalists. Final selections in each category are made by the Neal Board of Judges, chaired this year by Abe Peck, director of business-to-business communication and professor emeritus in service at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
“Tina’s work is a fine example of the high journalistic standards we strive to meet with all of our publications,” says Marcia Gruver, editorial director of Randall-Reilly’s Construction Media Group. “We are proud of her accomplishment and honored to have her as part of our team.”
Barbaccia’s journalism career includes work in the agriculture, automotive and appliance industries. She has won numerous awards for journalistic excellence and is the immediate past president and a board member of the Chicago Chapter of the American Society of Business Publication Editors. She also serves as ASBPE’s national vice president. She is a board member of the Construction Writers Association.
